Toy Story 5 (2026) – Movie Summary

The Conflict: Toys vs. Tech

The story follows 8-year-old Bonnie, who is growing up and struggling to make friends at school. To help her connect with peers, her parents get her a brand-new smart tablet named Lilypad (voiced by Greta Lee). Lilypad introduces Bonnie to an online group chat called "The Pond," which quickly consumes all of Bonnie's time and attention.

As screen time takes over, Jessie—now the room's leader—and the rest of the gang find themselves completely cast aside. Jessie faces deep emotional anxiety, triggered by traumatic memories of being abandoned by her former owner, Emily.

The B-Plot: The Army of Buzz Lightyears

Meanwhile, a shipment of 50 shiny, brand-new "Hi-Tech Edition" Buzz Lightyears washes ashore after a shipping mishap. Stuck in their autonomous "space ranger mode," this legion of high-tech clones believes they are stranded on an alien planet and must work together to find their way back to "Star Command."

The Journey and Reunions

Determined to save Bonnie from her digital isolation, Jessie and Bullseye set out on a mission to help Bonnie make real-world friends. However, things go wrong, and they become separated from the group. In a desperate move to help the family, Woody makes a grand return to the room, reuniting with Buzz Lightyear to lead a rescue mission.

Along the way, the regular toys cross paths with the army of Hi-Tech Buzzes, as well as a group of reformed electronic tech-toys (like Smarty, Atlas, and Snappy).

The Resolution

After navigating the dangers of the modern world and cyber-bullying on the tablet, the toys successfully help Bonnie's parents realize the negative impact the screen is having on her self-esteem. With the tech-toys and traditional toys working in harmony, Bonnie learns to balance screen time with real playtime. She ultimately makes a true, real-life friend named Blaze, ensuring that her beloved toys still have a special place in her heart.
